My MGB is roadworthy as of 31-12-2010! I got a license and all the paperwork is done. The front windscreen is however broken on the last day when I showed up at the 'keuringsinstantie'. So, more work to do, but at least I can drive! |

 We did it. The crossmember is installed. It was quite a hassle trying to get the springs back in. We used a self made device to compress the springs.
Specifically the two bolts that go deep in the crossmember were difficult to keep in place, while positioning the crossmember in the car... Now it's time to further assemble the items on the front suspension. Brakes would be nice! |

I've performed the mini overhaul of the differential today. Well, to be honest, I started a few days ago and today I paid a visit to a professional workshop. It's easy to remove the pinion pin, but impossible to extract the half-shafts... The problem is, you need proper equipment! A very large wrench and an axle puller device to do this job. Anyway, no more rear clonk. |

Today I was watching Wheeler Dealers on Discovery Channel. They bought a Ford Capri and had to change the bushes in the steering rack. They had a method of doing so, using merely a large bolt and a nut. This was the start of my own method of inserting new poly bushes into the front eye of the leafspring(s) of the MGB. First a 'hacksawed' out the original metalistic bushes. Then I warmed up the the new poly bushes by placing them on the heater in the living room for an hour (it's freezing cold in the garage!).
 
Make use of plenty of soap (or the other type of grease included in the package). Simply place the leafspring-eye and the bush on a threaded wire between two blocks of wood and two nuts.... Just turn, turn, turn, and turn one of the two nuts and believe me, they will go in eventually... After the rubber bush is almost in , use a hammer to get the last 2 mm in completely. Use the same method to position the metal insert. The end result:

20071030: Eindelijk, de MGB is zo kaal als het maar kan.  
Er zit nog
1 draadboom van voor naar achteren maar die kan lekker blijven zitten
tijdens het spuiten. Ik hoop dat de MGB deze week wordt gehaald en dat
ze 'm mooi gaan maken.
Ik heb ook een nieuw dashboard
binnengekregen. Nu maar hopen dat het inderdaad dezelfde is als er uit
kwam. Best lastig om die informatie vanaf plaatjes op internet te halen.

20071019: Het gaat dan eindelijk gebeuren, volgende week wordt de MGB opgehaald door een autospuiter. Hij gaat wat laswerk verrichten en 'm mooi afgewerkt weer terug brengen. Om 'm te kunnen laten ophalen moet er nog wel wat werk worden verricht. Motorkapslot moet er uit, wat kleine plaatjes uitboren, etc. Daar ga ik nu maar weer eens mee aan de slag.

Hmm, this sunny sunday we installed the windscreen in its frame. Unfortunately, when cleaning up the garage after a succesful day, my wife asked me if I realized there was a small crack in the screen.... At first I thought she was just kidding, but as it turned out it was true. So, time for a new windscreen! |

Yesterday I had the tyres removed from the 5 rostyles. The tyres were to be too dry to re-use...I'll take care of that later. Also, as it turned out, one rostyle is bent and the advice was given not to re-use it...That's the one I'll use as a spare wheel in the trunk/boot.
The 4 good ones I brought to the sandblaster, and the damaged one I've used for an experiment: How to paint Rostyles and which color combination is best?
Here's the result....I'm pretty proud of myself since this was just a quick experiment...

Major achievement: Today I personally installed the wiring/pipes on the underside of the car and both leaf springs and the rear axle. A 4 hour job of lifting the heavy (d#%m) thing and crawling into confined spaces in my garage...I have about 15cm of space between car and garage-wall on the left-hand side....not even enough for my head..   
I'm quite proud of myself. Now it's time for the rear-brakes and then the gastank. |

  De autospuiter heeft de auto bijna blauw gespoten. Ik ben er even langs geweest om de spatborden er op te zetten, nadat de binnenkant al blauw was. |

Tja, wat is er deze week gedaan? 
Ik heb de schokbrekers helemaal schoongemaakt.
En ik heb een begin gemaakt om de leaf spring te demonteren.
Ook heb ik een heleboel pakketjes ontvangen, varierend van simpele gaskets tot een hazard switch en een nieuwe heatshield voor de carburateur. Ik ben stiekem al bezig het radio console weer in elkaar te zetten....

2007-10-27: De motor is er uit! Er moesten we in totaal drie generaties aan te pas komen.
   
This is strange. After taking out the engine, it turns out the gearbox has overdrive! Take a look at the pictures in the picture-gallery. There are no signs of a previous gearbox-exchange, and no switches on the dashboard...Could this be one of those gearlever overdrive switches...We'll see later....

2007-07-22: De heater is er uit gehaald. Wat zat dan ding lastig vast. De bevestiging zit verstopt achter allerlei leidingen waarvan ik had gepland ze er later pas uit te halen. Maar goed, hij is er uit! |

2007-05-30: Toch maar gedaan. Een MGB uit 1974. Vieze kleur okergeel, nog veel werk aan te verrichten, maar hij rijdt al wel. Kon volgens de handelaar eigenlijk zo door de APK, maar hij gaat eerst nog helemal uit elkaar. Hij moet uiteraard nog worden gespoten in een normale kleur...
